Changes enhance the Company’s management structure
São José dos Campos, December 22, 2006 – Embraer announces that Satoshi Yokota,
presently Executive Vice-President, Engineering and Development, will be concentrating
on the Company’s technology and new product conception, under a new assignment as
Executive Vice-President, Technology Development and Advanced Design. In connection
with this decision, Emilio Matsuo, Development Engineering Director, has been appointed
to the newly-created position of Senior Vice-President, Engineering. Both assignments take
effect January 1, 2007.
Emilio Matsuo graduated from the Aeronautics
Technological Institute (Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica
– ITA) in 1977, with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering.
He joined Embraer in 1978 as systems engineer, dedicated to
environmental and later to flight controls systems. Matsuo
also spent three years in Italy working with the AMX
military program and its fly-by-wire electronic control.
Throughout the ’80s and ’90s Matsuo received leadership
assignments for Embraer’s significant new projects. In the
late ’90s, after playing a key role in the ERJ 145 family
program, including its business and military derivatives, he
became Embraer’s Programs Director. Since 2002, as
Development Engineering Director, Matsuo has played a
determinant role in the development and certification of the
EMBRAER 170/190 family of E-Jets.
The appointments of Satoshi Yokota and Emilio Matsuo, to lead the new organizations
dedicated to technology development and engineering, clearly reflect Embraer’s focus and
commitment in remaining a leading force in the aviation industry for years and decades to
come.
In another important decision by Embraer, Mauro Kern, currently Vice-President for
Airline Market Programs, has been appointed Senior Vice-President, Airline Market,
assuming the responsibilities for this business unit, when Frederico Fleury Curado succeeds
Maurício Botelho as Embraer’s President and CEO, effective April 2007.
Mauro Kern received a Mechanical Engineering degree from the Federal University of Rio
Grande do Sul (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul – UFRGS) in 1982. His initial
assignments at Embraer included mechanical systems and the landing gear for the AMX
military program. For almost a decade Kern worked for EDE (Embraer’s former
Equipment Division, now a joint venture with the Swiss company Liebherr, called ELEB Embraer Liebherr Equipamentos do Brasil), leading
engineering, marketing, sales, customer support, and programs
activities. In more recent years Mauro Kern has been
extensively involved in the EMBRAER 170/190 program,
where his responsibilities include product development,
planning, customer support, and program management.
As Embraer’s Vice-President for Airline Market Programs,
Mauro Kern has been a key player in conducting technical and
commercial negotiations with suppliers, actively participating
in sales campaigns, especially those involving the E-Jets
family.
This announcement, associated to the Company’s succession process, is in line with future
organizational adjustments that will strengthen its market position, while guaranteeing a
continued, smooth and harmonious transition.
